Why Cave Travel exists
Most trips are open to whoever pays first. We wanted to try the opposite — pick a good group first, and cover the cost of getting them there.
Cave Travel started from a simple frustration: the people who get to go on a great trip are usually just the people who could afford it and booked first — not necessarily the people who'd get the most out of it, or bring the most to a group of strangers. We wanted to flip that. Instead of selling seats, we review applications and choose who goes. The $15 fee exists so that process can stay open to anyone, not just people already in the right network.
Zanzibar is our first program — ten days on the Swahili coast, from Stone Town's old streets to the reefs off Nungwi. It's deliberately a small group. We'd rather run one trip well and be honest about what that takes than promise something bigger than we can actually deliver.
There's no secret scoring system. We're reading for a mix of people — different backgrounds, different reasons for applying — rather than one "ideal" applicant profile. It's slower than a first-come booking page, and that's the point.
If this first trip goes the way we're hoping, more programs will follow — different destinations, still built around the same idea: cover the cost for the people we choose, and be upfront about the one cost we do ask for along the way.
